I retired from the National Weather Service in December of 1991 after retiring from a 22 year stint in the U.S. Navy as an Aerographer's Mate. That gave me 35 years of Weather Guessing as a career. My wife, Liz, and I moved from Caribou, Maine in 1992 and built a log home here in Upton, on the shores of Lake Umbagog in the mountains of western Maine. A good deal of my time lately has been taken up with town affairs, as I was elected as Treasurer, Tax Collector and Town Clerk, during the Town Meeting in March. My spare time in the summer is devoted to pursuing the elusive smallmouth bass out on the lake , dredging the depths of area lakes and ponds for lake trout (Togue), and mowing grass. During the winter, my time is taken up hauling wood in to feed the woodstove, hauling the ashes out, feeding the birds and blowing snow. Aside from fishing, my other hobby is woodcarving, (click here to see a few samples) which I do during the winter months, secreted away in the basement surrounded by wood chips and sawdust. UPDATE: Recently bought a gas stove (Hearthstone) with ceramic logs to replace the wood stove. The gas stove will provide more heat than the wood stove and is considerably less labor intensive. All references to hauling wood in and ashes out may now be disregarded....now I will have more time to do other things that are more fun! I find that fooling around on the Internet is interesting, however, some of the more technical stuff of messing around with a PC become frustrating at times. Fortunately, my Number 1 son, Frank, has helped me out of jams in countless ways and I know without him I'd be in deep trouble.
