-Weather station info-

Weather observations of temperature, dewpoint, humidity, barometric pressure, wind direction, speed and precipitation are provided by a Davis WeatherMonitorll using  Weatherlink5.5 software. Observations are taken every 15 minutes and uploaded to the website around the clock. The Davis instruments are properly exposed alongside the NWS instrumentation under the same conditions and kept in calibration against them to insure that  website data is accurate and comparable to NWS standards. The archived Davis data may differ slightly from the official NWS daily data due to different and overlapping times of archiving (2400 hrs. for Davis and 0700 hrs. for the NWS co-op data ). Snow data is entered manually and gets edited daily at 0700. Station long term "normals" and "extremes" are for the period 1974 through 1999 for this site, with 1999 data onward being updated at the end of each month as a  rolling average for comparison to the long term data in order to track climate change.

Observations began in Turner, ME in Oct of 1974 and with the exception of a few months of missing data, are more or less continuous from 1974 to the present. From 1974 to Oct. of 1999, data is from the former location on Weston Rd. at 365' elev. Lat. 44.268N/70.276W. In Sept. of 1999, the station was relocated 1.5 miles northeast and to higher, open ground at 565' elev. Lat. 44.282N/70.256W. Temperature data from the two sites is not comparative due to the shift in elevation; however, the precip. data is comparative, giving a continuous rain and snowfall database back to 1974 for the Turner area. Wind data is from the new site and dates from Oct 2001.
