SSTV imaged downloaded from MIR

Images can be downloaded with software available on the net

Requires a scanner with outside antenna

    and soundcard for the PC

and a high resolution truecolor video card

  1. Mir over Traverse Bay, Northern Michigan
  2. Mir over somewhere in lake Superior/Winnipeg area
  3. Mir over twilight area NE US, SE Can
  4. Mir showing earth curvature

The frequency of the signal is

    145.985 +/- about 3 KHz for doppler.

If you use a ham radio type receiver, it is

best to try to follow the doppler, but most

scanners are a bit wider in bandwidth and even

with the doppler the signal stays in the bandwidth pretty well.

The program I used was ChromPix

    http://www.siliconpixels.com/CPIX/CHROMA.HTM

although there are a bunch of other similar programs

    http://sstv.home.mindspring.com/index.html

Normally Mir is in a packet mode, and occasionally you can hear voice, but for the last couple

months they have had the SSTV on the weekends

and usually forget to switch back until Mon or Tue.

The SSTV is a wobbling 2-tone signal that lasts about 15 seconds,

and they send it about every 2-3 minutes.
