John Jacob KREIDER[32]26 was born about 1717/18 in Ittlingen, Wurtenburg, Germany. He died on 11 Dec 1745 in Lancaster Co, PA.27 John Jacob's will was written in "High Dutch" and is abstracted in Will Book A of Lancaster Co, PA. His estate was granted to his wife Elizabeth. There were no executors appointed by the will.

John Jacob is named in the will of Michael Grittor, 1691-1739, as his son. He inherited the plantation on the Conestoga River. John Jacob acquired the land that Michael had purchased from Jacob Oberholtz. Because of the discovery that wills of these early Germans usually listed their sons in order of their ages, John Jacob was probably the oldest son of Michael and Barbara Graf/Groff/Grath. If Michael was not married in 1715, we can assume that he married Barbara Graf shortly afterward and that John Jacob was born about 1717 or 1718 before they immigrated to Pennsylvania.28

John Jacob died in 1744 or 1745. The inventory of his chattels was dated 1744/45. His will was not recorded or translated. The original will, found three or four years ago (1981 or 1982), was badly torn and contained many errors in the spelling. Only part of the will could be translated. The will was written by someone other than John Jacob but was obviously signed by Hans Jacob Greiter in a very shaky handwriting. It was dated 29 January 1745, and was probated 21 March 1744/45. This was actually 1745 by the Gregorian calendar, which was adopted in 1752 by England and her colonies.29

John Jacob Greiter's will was written in High Deutsch. His Last Will and Testament is recorded as follows:

The Last Will and Testament of Jacob Greiter Being Written in High Dutch could not be Recorded But Thereon is Endorsed as follows:

BE IT REMEMBERED that on the twenty first Day of March Ano dom 1744/5 The Last Will &Testament of Hans Jacob Greiter Deceased was proved in Due form of Law and administration (with the Testament of the said Deced annexd) was Granted unto Elizabeth Greiter (There being no Executors Appointed by the said Will) She Having first Given Bond well & truly to Administer the said Deceds Estate And Bring an Inventory thereof into the Registers Office in Lancaster County on or Before the twenty first Day of April next And Also to Render an Account of her said Administration on or before the twenty first Day of March Ano Dom 1745/6 Given under the Seal of the said Office.

John Jacob KREIDER and Elizabeth MUMMAH had the following children:

i. Michael CRIDER

ii. Barbara KREIDER

John Jacob left a widow and two small children: a son Michael and a daughter Barbara.30 Michael, born in 1742, married first Susanna Carpenter. Upon her death he married her sister Sarah. Michael and his family moved to Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania, about 1771.31 He died in Ross County, Ohio in 1816. In his will he named his surviving sons as Israel and Daniel of Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania - and John; Emmanuel; Henry; Michael, Jr.; David; and Jacob - of Ross County, Ohio. Michael adopted the spelling of his family name as Crider.32 Of Barbara, the daughter of John Jacob, no further record has been found. Elizabeth, Hans Jacob's widow, married John Miller.33
