1. (Wed) Boyd has set up some today. Allen, Aldene, Agnes and Gladys were here for dinner. Aldene is sick. Jess and Elsie came this eve.
2. (Thu) Boyd set up in the chair 2 or 3 times today. Florence came up with Iva. Aldene has had to lie down all day.
3. (Fri) Frank came last nite. Left early this morning. Aldene went home after dinner. Mr. Browning was here. Boyd has his clothes on.
4. (Sat) Boyd is about the same today. Sits up just a few minutes at a time.
5. (Sun) Boyd wasn't so well last nite. Jess, Elsie, Bobbie and Ootie stayed all nite. Florence's were here for dinner. Aldene's stayed all nite.
6. (Mon) (Allen's birthday - 40) Aldene stayed till after dinner. Esther Gass has Pneumonia. Temp 105.
7. (Tue) Boyd is gaining all the time. Jess went to the Dr. again. Harold and Stanley butchered 2 hogs.
8. (Wed) I did some mending and crocheted some. It has stormed all day.
9. (Thu) Florence came up with Iva. Allen and Aldene brot her out. Jim took her back to town.
10. (Fri) I finished embroidering a piece to day. Mr. Browning was here.
11. (Sat) Just did the work.
12. (Sun) Florence and the children came up. Jim went to Peoria. Iva came out with Aldene's.
13. (Mon) Iva is here. I started some mats for my sun shine friend, green and white.
14. (Tue) We just did the work and crocheted. I went to town after dinner.
15. (Wed) Iva is here yet. She and Boyd are playing Rum.
16. (Thu) Allen and Aldene brot Florence out. Jim took Florence and Iva back to town.
17. (Fri) Jess, Elsie, Iva, Harold, Stanley and Raburn Smith were here for dinner. They killed the beef.
18. (Sat) The meat is frozen this morning. Can't do anything with it. Jess, Lynn and Bobbie were here for dinner.
19. (Sun) Jim, Florence and children, Allen, Aldene and Agnes were here for dinner. The boys fixed the couch to day.
20. (Mon) It is pretty cold. Orval Keen was here all morning.
21. (Tue) Jim shucked corn today. It is getting colder.
22. (Wed) (Aldene's birthday - 40) 20 below this morning. The awfullest blizzard all day. Boyd shipped out 23 hogs. 22 below after supper.
23. (Thu) 20 below this morning. I canned beef yesterday and to day. 14 qts beef, 14 qts soup.
24. (Fri) I ironed today. Allen and Aldene and Agnes came out, brot fish for supper. Lynn's birthday - 14 years old.
25. (Sat) 12 below this morning. I churned today. Curt, Emma, Boyd and Sam were here this after noon.
26. (Sun) 17 below this morning. Mr. and Mrs. Roberts came for dinner. She stayed till 8 o'clock.
27. (Mon) 18 below this morning. Got up to 0 about one o'clock.
28. (Tue) Jess, Elsie, Harold, Bobbie and Ootie were here for dinner. Curt, Emma and Boyd came after dinner. Mr. and Mrs. Roberts were here this evening.
29. (Wed) Boyd is sick again. I called Jess. He came over and went to the Dr. and got medicine. Stayed for dinner.
30. (Thu) Florence came up with Ima. Allen, Aldene, Mrs. Drennan and Florence were here for dinner. 6 below tonite.

1. (Sat) Lillie Ball died about one o'clock last nite. Jess, Harold and Stanley were here this after noon.
2. (Sun) 10 above this morning. Allen took me out to see Lillie. Jim and Florence came up to Albert's and out home a few min.
3. (Mon) (Jess's birthday - 38) Jess and Elsie came and took me to Lillie's funeral. Aldene went with us. It rained all afternoon.
4. (Tue) 13 below this morning. I was so near sick, I didn't do very much.
5. (Wed) I washed a lot of things this morning. Ironed this after noon. Jess and Elsie brot us things from town. Mrs. Gass was here.
6. (Thu) I fried meat down this morning. Allen and Aldene came out a while this afternoon. 10 above this morning.
7. (Fri) I fried down some more meat today.
8. (Sat) Boyd went out of doors to day a little.
9. (Sun) Nobody here till eve. Mr. and Mrs. Roberts came down. Below 0 all day.
10. (Mon) 10 below this morning. I worked on my rug all day.
11. (Tue) 8 below this morning. I washed and ironed and finished my rug today
12. (Wed) We butchered today. Mrs. Roberts was here for dinner too.
13. (Thu) Allen came out for dinner. Aldene went home. We put the tenderloin and side meat away this morning.
14. (Fri) Aldene came out again this morning. We worked in the meat and made the mince meat. Cleaned the smokehouse.
15. (Sat) Jess is sick. Mr. Browning took me over there. He has appendicitis. The Dr. was there 4 times.
16. (Sun) I stayed all nite at Jess'. Harold brot me home. Jim and Florence came up. They went to Jess' after dinner.
17. (Mon) Jess is still in bed. Boyd was sick this eve.
18. (Tue) I washed a lot of things today.
19. (Wed) I washed and ironed curtains all day. Boyd was sick again this eve.
20. (Thu) Allen came out and took us to town. I went to Iva's and Emma's a few minutes.
21. (Fri) (Mary Eillen's birthday - would have been 13) I went to Springfield with Mr. Browning. Boyd went to Jess, early with Jim. I stopped there for dinner.
22. (Sat) Canned 13 qts of meat this morning.
23. (Sun) (Frank's birthday - 36) The Dr. was out to see Jess this morning. He isn't up hardly any. Lynn is sick at Iva's with the mumps.
24. (Mon) I packed the fruit today. It is awful warm and so muddy.
25. (Tue) I packed my good dishes today. Am awful tired tonite.
26. (Wed) Jess' thot they were going to get to move today, but the roads are too bad. We went to town, got a new linoleum.
27. (Thu) I did a lot of packing today.
28. (Fri) I washed up all the dresses, scarfs and little pieces to day. Jess' moved 3 loads.
29. (Sat) Jess was sick last nite, but they are moving today. I baked 4 pies for them. Did my ironing.
1. (Sun) (Bobbie's birthday - 10 years old) Jim, Florence, Mrs. Walker, Marie and Allen. Allen, Agnes and Aldene were here for dinner. The girls both stayed.
2. (Mon) We took up all the rugs and got every thing ready to move.
3. (Tue) We moved today. Had so much good help. Mrs. Roberts came with us. We all ate dinner at Elsie's.
4. (Wed) We got pretty well straightened up today.
5. (Thu) We cleaned the basement this morning. Took the girls to town after dinner. Florence went home with Ima.
6. (Fri) Aldene, Allen and Agnes came out this eve.
7. (Sat) Agnes stayed. We went out to the barn and then baked 4 pies and 2 cakes.
8. (Sun) Jess', Aldene's and Florence's and Iva were all here for dinner. Virgil and Mabel came in the afternoon.
9. (Mon) I took my washing to Elsie's. Stayed for dinner. Mrs. Clark and Irene came over.

11. (Wed) I helped at Jess' today. They papered the Dining room
12. (Thu) I helped at Jess' again today. Papered the 2 kitchens. Boyd and Elsie went to town.
13. (Fri) We went to Jess' again today. Papered the parlor.
14. (Sat) I went to Jess' after dinner. We cleaned the house up all over.
15. (Sun) We went to town. I went to Sunday School. We were at Aldene's for dinner.
16. (Mon) (Boyd's birthday - 66) I washed with Elsie today. Got dinner for Curt Keen and his man.
17. (Tue) I ironed and washed windows today. Boyd went to town.
18. (Wed) I helped paint at Elsie's today. We painted both Kitchens.
19. (Thu) Ootie is sick today.
20. (Fri) I was at Elsie's all day again. Boyd came home for dinner. We have another little calf. Elsie went to town for Medicine for Ootie.
21. (Sat) I cleaned the Smoke house this morning. Boyd and Bobbie went to town. Iva came home with them. Jess, Elsie and Ootie were here. Bobbie stayed all nite.
22. (Sun) Lynn came down and got Iva this morning. Aldene's and Florence's came and brot birthday dinner for Boyd.
23. (Mon) I cleaned up a lot of trash today.
24. (Tue) I made a tick for the other bed this after noon.
25. (Wed) I went to Elsie's and washed this morning. Ootie was here this eve.
26. (Thu) I ironed this morning. Enameled the bed upstairs this afternoon.
27. (Fri) We got the bed up today.
28. (Sat) We went to town. Elsie, Bobbie and Ootie went in with Helen and came home with us.
29. (Sun) We went to church at Everly Chapel this morning. Iva, Virgil and Mabel were here for dinner.
30. (Mon) We went down to Jess'. Helped put in more garden. We put a gold fish in the tank.
31. (Tue) I gave the house a good cleaning up this morning. I had to lay down nearly all afternoon.
1. (Wed) Jess, Elsie, Boyd and I went to Mr. Worth's funeral. It is raining this eve. Jess went to St. Louis yesterday, got 45 calfs.
2. (Thu) (Marie's birthday - 15 years old) We went to Florence's with Allen and Aldene this eve. It is awful cold.
3. (Fri) I stopped at Elsie's and helped wash. My tomato plants froze last nite in the house.
4. (Sat) (Harry A.'s birthday - 15 years old) I cleaned up the house this morning and ironed this after noon. It is cold and raining.
5. (Sun) It rained all day. We went to Jess' a little while this after noon.
6. (Mon) I just did the work today. I just ache all over to nite.
7. (Tue) Boyd, Elsie and I went to Mr. Post's funeral.
8. (Wed) I went to Elsie's and washed. Stayed for dinner. We did all the ironing too.
9. (Thu) I worked in the yard to day.
10. (Fri) Aldene and Agnes came out with Elsie this eve.
11. (Sat) Allen's left early this morning.
12. (Sun) (Easter Sunday) Jim and Florence, Marie, Allen and Mrs. Walker came last nite. Boyd was sick last nite.
13. (Mon) We washed this morning. Boyd, Elsie and I went to Mrs. Shurberries funeral. Frank came this eve.

This was the last entry Myrtle made in her diary. She died two weeks later, on May 3rd, 1936, of Pneumonia.

55. This entry, and the one on May 3rd, were entered by her daughter, Florence (McKinney) Walker, my grandmother. When Florence died, Myrtle's last diary was passed to me. Thus began my quest to find out as much as I could about their lives, and the family history.
