Pastel paintings by artist Chris Reid. Chris paints directly from nature en plein air or from imagination. Her motivation is found in nature's subtle beauty and the architectural style of her surroundings. Working as a colorist and luminist, she strives to capture the poetic mood of her subject with a bold use of color and intensity of light. Her work is said to breathe with a vital sense of space and presence. Specializing in soft pastel, she also works in oils, acrylics, pencil and charcoal. Chris relocated from Maine to Florida, and is enjoying new subjects and palette. She is currently represented by A Means of Expression gallery in Pensacola. Her award winning artwork  can be found in national juried shows, private exhibits and collections nationwide.

Pastel is a major fine art medium that can be traced back to the 16th century. Pastels are made of pure powdered pigment which is bound in stick form. They are known for their incredibly lush color and vitality.
