ARC Shelter Management

Buckfield Jr/Sr High School, 160 Morrill Rd
April 19th, 8am-11am

Please let our office know by April 14th if you will be attending this training . This will be a practical, hands-on class that covers the procedures for opening, running and closing a shelter.

After completing this course, participants will be able to

  • Describe the procedures for opening, operating and closing shelters

  • Explain ways to demonstrate quality service

  • Organize available human resources as a shelter operations team

  • Identify resources available to assist shelter workers

  • Organize the physical facility and material resources to meet the needs of the people in the shelter

From the intersection of Routes 5, 26 and 2 in Bethel the training facility is 7.4 miles out Route 2 East.

Overnight, Clothing and Gear
The overnight facilities are located in five bunk houses. Each house contains 20 beds(10sets of bunks) and wall lockers to secure valuables.  There is no security at the facility and the buildings cannot be locked. The accommodations are very similar to a typical camping situation, save for the bunks and showers. Shower facilities are located near the bunk houses. Please bring toiletries, appropriate gear and clothing for all weather, as well as bug spray and sun block.

Please dress appropriately for the classes you have signed up for. This is a rain or shine event.
