Computer Assisted Patient
Education Computer assisted instruction
is an interactive learning tool providing systematic education which can
result in an increased adherence to treatment, longer behavior changes,
shorter recovery times and more efficient use of healthcare resources. (Drs. Hayward, & Kahn 1995) Teaching is as equally
important as it is time-consuming.
Doctors are sometimes caught in a Catch-22 situation. HMOs require patient visits to be brief,
while at the same time patients want to be well-informed so they can make
important decisions. Many physicians are making
education kiosks available in their offices.
They are reducing the amount of time that they spend teaching
different patients the same information over and over. Some doctors copy discs for their patients to
take home and share with their families.
After patients view slide shows at their own pace, with or without
facilitators, they can then have more informed discussions with you. When patients make choices,
they become active participants in their education. By clicking on hyperlinks, they can choose
to see illustrations, learn about symptoms and procedures, and find support
group information. Quizzes can be
taken upon completion.
Let Colleen’s
twenty years of nursing and health education experience work for you. She can help you to communicate medical
information to the general public using understandable language. |
