Utilities
Lewiston's drinking water is pumped from Lake Auburn. The lake stretches for over 3 square miles. The city has two reservoirs of water. One is off Montello Heights and the other is off Webber Avenue. The water is made pure and flouride is added before it flows into your home. The citizens must pay a fee for the water they use.
Central Maine Power Company has two
electrical plants in the city. One is Gulf Island Dam on
Switzerland Road and the other is the Lewiston Sub Station on
Maine Street near Libby Mill.
There are 16 generators on the upper and lower canals that also produce electricity for Lewiston and the surrounding areas.
The city-owned Hydro-Electric Power and
Pumping Station makes electricity for the streetlights of
Lewiston.
The residents of the city may also get natural
gas to heat their homes, water, and cook their food from Northern
Utilities, Natural Gas Company.
