Quit Smoking Stories
Reprinted with permission...
My father (who died a year ago last week) started smoking when he was a
teenager (back in the 1930's). He admitted he was addicted, and had
very strong feelings about the tobbacco industry (mostly involving their
political influence, until the information about the deliberate
manipulation of nicotine levels came out).
He quit smoking many, many times. Once it was because he was in an
oxygen tent. The final time was because he was too sick with cancer to
tolerate it (or food or drink, either)
I've spoken to a nurse who worked in a drug rehabilitation center. In
her experience it is harder to quit smoking than it is to quit heroin
usage.
That doesn't mean that no-one can do it, or that those that can can't do
it cold-turkey. But people who really want quit can die, first.
That's why it's important to let people know the truth before they
start.
