SAFERDepartment of Homeland Security Opens Application Period for Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Services (SAFER) Grants

May 12, 2008 -- The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) posted today the Program Guidance document for the FY2008 SAFER Grants at the website for the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program - www.firegrantsupport.com. Under the DHS Appropriations Act of 2008, Congress appropriated $190 million for SAFER Grants. Fire departments that have questions regarding this grant opportunity should contact the Help Desk at 1-866-274-0960 or email to firegrants@dhs.gov.

Beginning May 27, 2008, at 8:00 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time, DHS will begin accepting applications for SAFER Grants. The deadline for receipt of the SAFER Grant applications will be 5:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time on June 27, 2008.

The applications will be automated and will be accessible from www.firegrantsupport.com.

The SAFER Grants are administered by the DHS's Federal Emergency Management Agency.

CEDAPCommercial Direct Assistance Program

The National Preparedness Directorate, Federal Emergency ManagementAgency (FEMA), Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced theschedule for the 2008 application period of the Commercial EquipmentDirect Assistance Program (CEDAP)  Applications may be submitted via the Responder Knowledge Base (www.rkb.us)starting at 0900EDT on Friday, May 30th, and continuing until 1700EDT on Monday, June 30th.

Questions regarding the CEDAP program should be referred to the Centralized Scheduling Information Desk (CSID) at 800-368-6498.
