The Oxford County ARES team will be competing in the 2008
Field Day for 24 hours beginning at 2 p.m. on
Saturday, June 28 at His Place Teen Center in Oxford at 254 Webber

The objective of the nationwide competition is for local radio emergency

test their equipment, radio emergency services must attempt to contact as many
of the 80 different ARES sections in the United States and Canada using
different frequency bands and modes.
If you have an interest in amateur radio, or would simply like to understand the
capabilities of our ARES team, please take a moment and stop by their field
site.

The digital television (DTV) transition refers to the switch from analog to
digital television broadcasts. On February 17, 2009, federal law requires
that all full-power television broadcast station stop broadcasting in analog
format and broadcast only in digital format.
Consumers who own analog sets that are not connected to a subscriptions TV
service must purchase a digital-to-analog converter box for each of their analog
TV sets to continue to receive over-the-air programming. A government
program run by the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA)
is making available $40 coupons, limited to two per household, to help consumers
pay for the converter boxes. More information on the
digital-to-analog converter box program is available online at
www.dtv2009.gov, or by calling

Maine Emergency
Management Agency (MEMA) has always worked hard with Federal partners,
other state agencies, and county and local governments to be sure that planning
and coordination is in place to deal with all hazards. We work very closely with
first responders to make sure they have the equipment they need and are trained
and exercised on how to use their tools to protect the people of Maine. |
